The MTR Corporation plans to test hydrogen-powered trains on its light rail system with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality.
Tony Lee Kar-yun, the operations and innovation director of MTR, said the rail giant set a goal to cut carbon emissions in 2030 by 50 percent compared to 2019 and reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
He added that MTR will soon conduct a six-month trial for hydrogen trains on the light rail system to assess regulatory compliance and safety requirements.
