Hong Kong experienced chilly weather on Tuesday, with temperatures in the city hovering around six degrees Celsius with the mercury dipping below zero at the highest peak as ice formed on Tai Mo Shan, reaching a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius at one point.
Reports are coming in of frost on plants and exteriors of buildings.
The government urged the public not to go up the mountain before closing all the lanes on Tai Mo Shan Road for public safety.
However, people were still hiking up the mountain for their morning workouts.
Chiu, a retiree who parked his car and hiked up the mountain, stated that he was used to hiking up the mountain as he does so every day, and he also wanted to see if ice was forming or not.
He added that he was still cold despite wearing three layers of clothes, but his heart was warm enough.
Another hiker, surnamed Wong, said it was raining when she started her
walk from the country park at around 6.20 am. It was also windy and quite cold, but she had enough clothes.
Wong said she would come up there once or twice a week and was satisfied when she saw frozen plants halfway up the mountain so as not to go to the top.
