A group of Shenzhen students who were waiting for their bus saved a Chinese woman who jumped into the sea due to relationship troubles in Wan Chai early Thursday morning.
Around 1 am today, a 23-year-old Chinese woman surnamed Liu is suspected to have been drinking near the seaside of Golden Bauhinia Square in Wan Chai due to relationship issues.
During which she was seen talking to a male friend regarding the issue, and when her friend walked away, she jumped into the sea in an attempt to end her life.
Nearby witnesses saw her jump into the sea, and they immediately tossed a lifebuoy to her and contacted the police for assistance.
A police officer was alerted to the scene. He jumped into the waters, rescuing the woman and hauled her onto the marine police speedboat that arrived later.
She was seen crying and walking back to the shore before being taken to Ruttonjee Hospital for medical attention.
The incident was listed as an attempted suicide.
It is understood that the three witnesses who rescued the woman were third-year students from Shenzhen University who were waiting for a shuttle bus after visiting Hong Kong.
