Hong Kong's new electronic toll system HKeToll will be extended to the Tate's Cairn Tunnel from 5 am on November 26 to replace all manual toll booths and Autotoll lanes. Motorists will no longer be required to stop or queue at toll booths for payments.
Temporary traffic arrangements will be implemented in phases in the vicinity of the Tate's Cairn Tunnel starting from 1 am on November 26.
Both directions of the Tate's Cairn Tunnel and its slip roads will be closed from 4 am to 5 am. During the closure of the Tate's Cairn Tunnel, overnight franchised bus route No. 680 - running between Kam Ying Court and Central - will be diverted via the Lion Rock Tunnel.
Following the Tate's Cairn Tunnel, the government plans to implement the HKeToll at the Aberdeen Tunnel in December, with details to be announced separately.
The Transport Department said, as of November 14, more than 810,000 vehicle tags had been issued, accounting for over 99 percent of licensed vehicles in Hong Kong, of which about 92 percent had opened HKeToll accounts.
The HKeToll currently collects tolls of about 430,000 vehicle trips on average per day at the Tsing Sha Control Area, Shing Mun Tunnels, Lion Rock Tunnel and three road harbor crossings, according to the department.
