Hong Kong police have arrested the suspect in a murder and robbery case that occurred in 1991, with the 59-year-old suspect taken into custody when he traveled to Hong Kong from the mainland.
The man, surnamed Wen, was part of a three men gang that stormed Shun Fat Company watch shop in Sham Shui Po on June 9, 1991, with one of them shooting a staff member in the head.
Superintendent Alan Chung Nga-lun of the Kowloon West regional crime unit said Wen was nabbed at the Shenzhen Bay Control Point on Saturday when he intended to enter the city on a travel visa.
Immigration officers found Wen on the police’s wanted list when he was crossing the control point in a seven-seater, thus apprehending the man.
Chung said police have identified the suspect in 2021 after years of investigation, placing him on a wanted list. It is understood that police used fingerprints collected at the crime scene to identify him.
Wen was charged with murder and attempted burglary over the incident on Monday, and the case has been adjourned to January 15. Wen will be remanded pending police investigation.
