Some bars and restaurant owners in Lan Kwai Fong said there was a 30 percent increase in business following the mass celebration of Halloween.
Thousands of party-goers dressed up as characters from anime, TV shows and movies - such as the demonic nun, Michael Myers and Ursula - flocked to the well-known nightlife area Tuesday night to celebrate the first Halloween after the pandemic.
Some non-local students came to Lan Kwai Fong to feel the Halloween vibe.
“I would like to see and take photos with some characters I love, and I think I will be staying late,” said Ngan.
“It is so much fun as Lan Kwai Fong is most famous for celebrating Halloween,” said Ma, a Mandarin-speaking student.
Jacky, a restaurant owner in Lan Kwai Fong, said his tables were fully booked weeks ago, and the business improved considerably compared to last year.
“This is the first Halloween after returning to normalcy from the pandemic; more people are willing to spend and celebrate,” he added.
He said the business has grown 30 percent over last year.
Police commissioner Raymond Siu Chak-yee visited Lan Kwai Fong to ensure public order and safety.
“I wish everyone will have a joyful Halloween but most important is to behave,” he said.
Kwok Ka-chuen, the Regional Commander of Hong Kong Island police, also went there to give out candy and take photos with the public.
