Head prefect sent to detention center for sleeping with 13-year-old girlfriend thrice

A student head prefect who was cautioned by a police superintendent twice over sex crimes was sent to a detention center on Wednesday for sleeping with his 13-year-old girlfriend thrice when he was 14 in 2019. 

The defendant WKC, now 18, appeared before deputy district judge Pang Leung-ting at the West Kowloon Court this morning. WKC earlier pleaded guilty to having sex with his girlfriend “X” three times in North Point and Siu Sai Wan between October and November in 2019. 

The court heard that WKC was dating X in October 2019 but the two broke up the next month and WKC quit school. In 2021, rumors about X dating WKC spread in school and X talked to a social worker, revealing that she had had sex with WKC without using protection. 

The case was then reported to police and WKC was arrested in June 2021. Under police caution, WKC admitted having sex with X three times while knowing that she was only 13 at the time. 

The court also heard that WKC was involved in two other sex crimes in 2020 for having sex with a girl in an accessible toilet in Taikoo Shing and touching the thigh of another girl in a hotel room. Both cases were settled as he was twice cautioned by a police superintendent. 

Yet, a correctional service report revealed that WKC admitted to having sex five times with the girl in the toilet, not once as heard in court. 

In mitigation, the defense said WKC was young and naïve and committed the crimes out of impulse. The lawyer also said WKC performed well after switching to a new school and even became head prefect. 

Judge Pang said he was shocked to hear that the school allowed WKC to take up the role of head prefect after learning of his past. He noted that he was not criticizing but he was unsure of what the standards were for student conduct. 

Pang then blasted WKC for his weak awareness of abiding by the law, and pointed out that sexual assault in the hotel room took place three months after he was first cautioned by a superintendent. Making a reservation at the hotel also indicated WKC plotted his crime beforehand. 

Although the defense argued that WKC didn’t commit any crime after he was cautioned for the second time, Pang said it was because WKC had been arrested six months later. 

Pang at last sent WKC to a detention center, saying that only detention punishment could help WKC re-build awareness to abide by the law and rectify his crooked sexual concepts.
