Lam, 34, was among eight people arrested on Monday on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud over his role in promoting the platform.
The former insurance manager was released on bail of HK$300,000 late Tuesday night. He was caught sneakily leaving the police station through the back door while his girlfriend Wada Hiromi drew attention in the front.
Lam only said he had terminated the contract for his office in Central on Wednesday and ceased all relevant operations. He added that police didn’t throw any charges at him at the moment.
Lam sidestepped most of the questions fired by reporters, including if he was a partner for the JPEX platform, knew other arrestees, promoted the platform while knowing it would be illegal to do so, or if he had any assets frozen.
When asked if he would apologize to the JPEX clients, Lam said police investigation is ongoing and there are a lot of things that he can’t do at the moment.
He also said after he is proven innocent, he will do his best to assist affected citizens within his capabilities and legal boundaries, but didn’t give much details.
Lam acknowledged that many are now deeply troubled and said his situation is much worse.
Lam also said he slept well over the past two days and his time in detention was a good opportunity for him to reflect on his life.
