Heavy rain on Lantau as Amber Rainstorm Warning issued

The observatory issued the Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal at 11.55 am on Saturday and said rain is particularly heavy on Lantau Island. 

The Thunderstorm Warning issued at 2.21 am early morning will remain in force until 2 pm. Intense gusts of around 70 kilometers per hour were recorded on Cheung Chau at around 11.35 am. 

There will be flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas, and heavy rain may bring about flash floods. 

People are advised to stay away from watercourses and take necessary precautions to avoid losses. 

The public is also reminded to listen to the radio or watch television for traffic conditions and further announcements on the rainstorm.
