The report was filed to police at 7.49 am this morning by airport security, and officers from the police’s explosive ordnance disposal bureau soon arrived at the scene.
The sparkler wands were safely taken care of by officers, and no injury was reported.
Police then arrested the 28-year-old woman surnamed Ng for illegal possession of fireworks and firecrackers. She is now remanded in police custody.
The sparkler wands are long, thin sticks resembling incense sticks. Once the tip is ignited, the stick will release colorful sparks until it burns out, earning its name of a “wand” as a reference to magical wands in popular culture.
They are also popular toys among children and teenagers during the Chinese New Year holidays. Yet, the sale of sparkler wands is banned in Hong Kong.
