Inquiry into concert screen collapse to be completed within weeks, says cultural chief

A task force has been set up by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to investigate the cause of the accident where a large video panel fell from the ceiling above the concert stage at Hong Kong Coliseum on Thursday evening, injuring two dancers.

Speaking to reporters on Friday morning after inspecting the site, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Kevin Yeung Yun-hung said an initial investigation has revealed that one of the two wires fastened to the large video screen has snapped.

Yeung said the SAR government expressed grave concern over the accident, and has since set up a task force to be led by an Assistant Director of the LCSD to work with the Labour Department and relevant parties to investigate the cause of the accident.

He stressed that everything will be done to hold those responsible accountable, with the investigation expected to take a few weeks.

Meanwhile, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han said investigators are working overnight at the scene to collect evidence, while authorities will press charges according to law when necessary.
