Hong Kong’s badminton star Angus Ng Ka-long suffered a defeat in his first leg of the Singapore Badminton Open on Wednesday.
Angus Ng, seeded eighth in the tournament, faced Malaysia’s Ng Tze-yong in the first round. Ng lost in straight sets 16-21 and 17-21.
Ng’s teammate Lee Cheuk-yiu faced Israeli Misha Zilberman on Wednesday and won in straight sets 21-15, 21-19. The last time the duo met was in 2017, when Lee won in straight sets.
The major tournament - which began yesterday, will see several Hongkongers participating in it, including mixed doubles pair Jordan Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet. They comfortably won the first match on Tuesday against Egyptian duo Doha Hany and Adham Hatem Elgamal (21-13, 21-12).
As for Hong Kong’s female badminton star, Yoyo Ng Tsz-yau, she will participate in both the women’s doubles and mixed doubles in this tournament. Her partners for the events are Crystal Tsang Hiu-yan and Reginald Lee Chun-hei, respectively.
Yoyo Ng lost her first women’s doubles match in straight sets (12-21, 13-21) but won her first mixed doubles match (11-21, 21-13, 21-14).
