Forbes released Hong Kong's 50 Richest 2022 on Thursday and explained that the shares of Li's property developer CK Asset Holdings have gone up by a third compared to a year ago.
"Resilience in Hong Kong's residential market lifted shares of his property developer CK Asset Holdings by a third from a year ago, offsetting the decline in his holding in videoconference provider Zoom," the Forbes report said.
Ranked second on the list is Lee Shau-kee, who co-founded Sun Hung Kai Properties and started Henderson Land Development, with his net worth of US$34.2 billion (about HK$267 billion).
The city's third-richest man is New World Development's chairman Henry Cheng Kar-shun and his family, with a net worth of US$26.4 billion (HK$206 billion).
Sitting in fourth place are the five siblings of late Lee Man-tat, former chairman of Lee Kum Lee Group – Charlie, Sammy, Eddy, David, and Elizabeth – with a net worth of US$18.9 billion (HK$147 billion).
Former chairman of Wheelock & Co. and its subsidiary Wharf Holdings Peter Woo Kwong-ching, with US$18.7 billion (HK$146 billion), ranked fifth.
Ranked from the sixth to the tenth are former chairman of Chinese Estate Joseph Lau Luen-hung; former chairwoman of Sun Hung Kai Properties Kwong Siu-hing; founder of K. Wah Group Lui Che-woo; executive vice-chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Joseph Tsai Chung-hsin; and owners of Biel Crystal Yeung Kin-man and Lam Wai-ying.
Forbes added that Hong Kong's economy revived by 6.4 percent in 2021 on an uptick in exports and domestic consumption. Yet, stringent Covid-19 curbs impacted the Hang Seng Index, which dipped 16 percent in the past 12 months.
Mixed circumstances brought the combined wealth of the city's 50 richest from US$331 billion to US$328 billion.
"More than half of the listees saw their wealth increase, led by the top three," according to Forbes.
