Covid has claimed another cinema in Hong Kong – Cinema City VICTORIA in Causeway Bay, which announced its closure on Tuesday.
Cinema City announced that its Causeway branch will be closing permanently after four years of operation due to tenancy expiration and the city's current pandemic situation.
The cinema also thanked the public for years of support.
Cinemas in Hong Kong have long been hammered by the tightening of Covid rules.
UA Cinemas in March last year announced that its half-dozen cinemas will close for good "due to unavoidable and devastating pressure faced by our operations since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic."
UA's Hong Kong operation was founded in 1985 by US tycoon Ira Kaye and had screened thousands of international and local blockbusters over the years.
Meanwhile, Broadway Circuit on Friday announced that its Diamond Hill branch in Hollywood Plaza will close in March this year, citing the government's mandatory closure and the expiry of the tenancy agreement by then.
Cinema-goers swiftly took to the internet to express their disappointment that Covid had struck another blow at everyday life.
