The video, which was uploaded onto a Facebook group, shows a food delivery rider quarreling with a police officer in Tsui Ping Estate, Kwun Tong after he was issued a parking ticket.
During the argument, the cop exclaimed: “You are not a cop, I am! I don’t need you to teach me how to do my job! If you knew how to be a cop, you wouldn’t be delivering food for a living!”
Upon hearing this, the delivery worker got emotional and said: “Well, sorry — if it wasn’t for the pandemic, I’d be a manager! And what’s wrong with delivering food anyway?”
Another police officer was at the scene too, but he did not speak but just patted the delivery worker on the shoulder. When advised by onlookers to leave, the delivery worker eventually drove his motorcycle away.
“We all have our roles to play in society. We shouldn’t define our worth by our occupation,” one netizen wrote.
“What’s so great about being a cop? And what’s so bad about delivering takeaway? Don’t look down on people. Mutual respect should be common sense.”
However, others found no fault in the police officer’s action, saying that he had good reason to issue the parking ticket.
