MTR Corp will extend train services on New Year's Eve by an hour, but will not offer overnight service as in years before the pandemic.
Services will be enhanced for four consecutive weekends starting Saturday, as well as on Winter Solstice, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Christmas and New Year holidays.
MTR made the announcement on Tuesday evening, adding that 6,480 additional train trips will be offered under the service enhancement.
From Saturday (Dec 11) to January 2, 2022, MTR will increase train frequencies on six railway lines – Island, Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, South Island, East Rail and Tuen Ma lines – on weekends, Christmas and New Year holidays.
On Winter Solstice (Dec 21), Christmas Eve (Dec 24) and New Year’s Eve (Dec 31), train frequencies will be increased starting from the afternoon.
The train company noted that from December 2021 to February 3, 2022, the Airport Express will enhance its services to 15-minute intervals on event days at Asia World-Expo.
As for the Disneyland Resort Line, it will step up services to five-minute intervals during peak hours from December 18 till the end of this year, as well as the New Year and Lunar New Year holidays.
To celebrate the festive joy, there are interactive 3D photo zones featuring “Santa T-Chai” so that passengers to take snapshots and get into the Christmas spirit.
The zones will be set up at Hong Kong, Admiralty, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Kowloon Tong, Tsing Yi, Olympics and Tsuen Wan stations until December 27.
