With large crowds expected to flood to M+ Museum on its opening date this Friday, West Kowloon Cultural District urged visitors to take public transport to the destination.
M+, which specializes in visual art, design and architecture, moving images, and Hong Kong visual culture of the 20th and 21st centuries, will open at 10am on Friday.
A grand opening ceremony will be held on Thursday, which means Zone F Car Park in the district will be closed from midnight to 11.59pm while Art Park (Zone E) Car Park will remain open.
Online reservations for free admission for the first two weeks have been available since last week, and most of the admission time slots for the opening weekend have been fully booked.
Reservations can be made via the M+ website, West Kowloon website or through the West Kowloon Mobile app.
Walk-in visits will be allowed, but waiting times for entry may be extended, especially in the afternoons.
Due to the number of pre-registered visitors, the museum will not accommodate group visits during the first reservation period from November 12 to 28. A further announcement on details of pre-registration for local group tour visits will be made next week.
Special departures for Route 296D will detour two additional bus stops at Museum Drive and the Art Park respectively starting from Friday.
Water Taxi will also operate an additional route stopping by West Kowloon in the afternoon for Sundays and public holidays. It will also arrange special sailings this Friday.
The Transport Department said that the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority provides 13 pick-up and drop-off points for cabs and private cars, and four for coaches.
The department plans to add additional bus stops at Museum Drive to tie in with the public transport services.
The department will also send staff to monitor the public transport services around the area on the first two days and arrange for enhanced services if necessary.
