From a paper document to a card, the Hong Kong Identity Card has undergone major technological developments since its first issuance in 1949.

Such developments are showcased in the Public Records Office's annual exhibition titled "Identity Card - A Timeless Proof" which opens today.
The exhibition will run from Monday through Friday from 9am to 5.45pm, except for public holidays, at the Exhibition Hall on the second floor of the Hong Kong Public Records Building in Kwun Tong. Admission is free.
There are 70 exhibits including all generations of ID cards and the equipment required for their production. There are also historical photos showing members of the public taking their ID card photos.
