Hong Kong and Macau officials are set to meet and discuss how to resume cross-border commuting, after Hong Kong has seen zero untraceable local infections for 12 days in a row.
Macau authorities said both administrations can initiate talks on how to lift pandemic-related border restrictions once Hong Kong has seen zero local cases for 14 days.
In other words, if Hong Kong still maintains zero local infection tomorrow, the relaxation of border control measures between Hong Kong and Macau will be feasible.
Macao said that it will make a risk assessment in response to the development of the epidemic and continue to negotiate with Hong Kong and Guangdong to decide whether to relax entry and exit arrangements, including quarantine-free travel for vaccinated persons.
The last Covid case in Hong Kong dates back to June 5, involving a 17-year-old girl infected with the N501Y coronavirus variant, with her mother and sister also infected. However, no chain of transmission was detected in the territory.
