A boy and three girls, aged from 14 to 15, were arrested after they were spotted slapping a classmate in a school in Tsing Yi.
The incident was recorded and the video soon went viral on the internet. It took place at Caritas St. Joseph Secondary School.
The police received a report on June 3, which said a 13-year-old boy was assaulted by someone using a hand in a school in Tsing Yi on May 27. The boy’s face was slightly injured and he refused to be admitted to hospital.
The case was handled by Kwai Tsing district criminal squad unit 6. Officers after investigation soon arrested a boy and three girls, aged from 14 to 15, for common assault between June 5 and 7. They have all been granted bail and must report to the police in late-June.
In the video the victim, who was wearing a mask, was slapped by two girls. The girls slapped him so hard that his mask was even misplaced. The footage also saw the boy kneeled on the ground with folded hands, suspected of begging his classmates for mercy.
It is understood that the 13-year-old victim is a secondary one student of the school, and he has special education needs.
The four arrested are secondary one and two students, in which two girls are in the same class as the victim.
The school later issued a statement, saying that it is highly concerned about the incident and no bullying behaviours would be tolerated.
The school believed that this was an isolated incident. It added it has informed parents of the incident and provided assistance when reporting to police after verification. Social workers have also been arranged to take care of students’ emotions.
The statement also said now that the case is handled by the police, the school will not make further comments on the incident.
