The government today has rented Dorsett Kwun Tong Hotel as a quarantine facility, allowing close contacts of the infected who has no Covid symptoms to undergo their 14-day quarantine.
The hotel will not accommodate guests other than those needing quarantine, there is also hotel staff guarding the entrance.
The hotel is situated in the industrial area of Kwun Tong, passersby said they are not worried about having the hotel near their workplace as long as they did keep a high standard in personal hygiene.
Authorities are planning to rent another 10,000 hotel rooms for quarantine use in view of the return of students overseas this Christmas.
The Executive Director of the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners, Li Hon-shing said the hotel industry is eager to provide their facility for quarantine use, saying over 100 hotels and guesthouses have signed up.
“Authorities have guaranteed a 50 percent occupancy for the designated quarantine hotels, a subsidy will be provided if the occupancy falls short,” said Li.
Li also said the hotel will provide three meals to those under quarantine, however, they could request takeaways for lunch and dinner.
