My Wish will get yet another jockey next start in the Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup after trainer Mark Newnham confirmed Alexis badel will be replaced by Hugh Bowman.
Badel replaced Luke Ferraris in Sunday’s G1 Stewards’ Cup but Bowman will now ride after My Wish dead-heated for fourth behind Romantic Warrior.
“It was a messy race on Sunday,” Newnham said. “I am looking forward to going to 2,000m with Hugh Bowman.”
My Wish was narrowly defeated in the BMW Hong Kong Derby over the Gold Cup distance of 2,000m, sprinting home in a closing 400m sectional of 21.49 seconds and finished a short-head second to winner Cap Ferrat.
“He hasn’t been to 2,000m since the Derby, when he ran a great race that time and I think Hugh’s style will suit him there.”
The Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup will be run on March 1 and is the second leg of the Hong Kong Triple Crown.
Bowman has also been booked to ride Newnham’s leading Hong Kong Classic Mile contender Invincible Ibis this Sunday and was due to ride the horse in work this morning at Sha Tin.
“I rode him on Saturday morning and the work program has been the same as it has been,” Newnham said. “Hugh rode him in the final gallop - going into the last start and we have keept things the same.”
