Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) marked its first anniversary on Sunday (Mar 1) with a large-scale "Community Sports Day" event, drawing nearly 1,500 residents from the Kai Tak and Kowloon City districts, along with families from various NGOs. The event brought the community together for a day of sports, energy, and excitement.
Attendees participated in eight different sports experiences, including tennis, beach volleyball, pickleball, climbing, taekwondo, children’s fencing, bowling, and mono inline skating.
Sports Ambassadors and elite athletes from the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) participated as guest coaches, while the KTSP management team also took part in friendly matches with athletes.
The event promoted the spirit of "Sports for All" and reinforced KTSP’s mission to foster community engagement and social inclusion.
To celebrate the anniversary, more than 100 merchants in the Park’s three Kai Tak Mall buildings offered one-day-only discounts, while the malls continued to feature a range of sports brands, retail shops, and about 80 dining outlets.
Since opening, KTSP has established itself as Hong Kong’s “Home Venue,” hosting nearly 50 major events and more than 120 international and local sports and entertainment days in its first year.
The Kai Tak Stadium and Kai Tak Arena have operated at nearly 90 percent utilization rates. The Stadium has attracted more than 1.9 million attendees, becoming a key driver for Hong Kong’s sports industry, event economy, and tourism development.
Across its three main facilities—Kai Tak Stadium, Kai Tak Arena, and Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground—as well as the precinct’s bowling centre and outdoor sports spaces, KTSP is expected to surpass 200 event days since opening.
In the past year, KTSP’s indoor and outdoor facilities have been booked more than 52,000 times, totaling nearly 140,000 hours of community sports participation.
“Our first anniversary is not only a major milestone for Kai Tak Sports Park, but also a moment of pride for Hong Kong,” said a KTSP spokesman. “We are committed to bringing the community together and strengthening Hong Kong’s connection with the Greater Bay Area and the international stage.”
