The new Huanggang Port, a key cross-border gateway between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, is slated to officially open on July 1, according to recent mainland media reports.
The launch date coincides with the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover, underscoring the significance of the opening.
A photo published by mainland media, reportedly from the Shenzhen Port Administration Office, revealed a countdown display with the message: “138 days until the opening of the new Huanggang Port.”
Given the photo’s release date of February 13, the countdown points to a July 1 opening.
During a recent press conference at the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress, Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong confirmed that the new port would be fully completed and operational this year.
The new facility will do away with cargo inspection functions and introduce a 'collaborative inspection and joint clearance' system, which is expected to cut customs clearance times from around 30 minutes to just 5 minutes.
In addition to its border functions, the port project will make 400,000 square metres of land available for scientific research staff and develop a 1.8 million-square-metre international integrated innovation zone.
Authorities also plan to establish an international talent community northeast of the port, featuring international schools and hospitals to create a high-quality living environment aimed at attracting talent from around the world.
