Cathay Pacific today launched expanded community programs for its 80th anniversary, aiming to positively impact 80,000 lives in 2026 through youth development, sports, and volunteer service, while kicking off the latest edition of its I Can Fly youth program.
Cathay Pacific announced new partnerships and initiatives to celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2026, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to Hong Kong and the communities it serves.
The airline revealed collaborations with Rugby For Good and HandsOn Hong Kong at a launch event. Through Rugby For Good, Cathay will introduce the GET, SET, MOVE program, using rugby activities to promote mental and physical well-being among primary and secondary students. With HandsOn Hong Kong, it will support year-round volunteer opportunities for charities, encouraging wider participation, including from Cathay staff.
The announcement coincided with the first two Aviation Explorer Days of 2026 under the flagship I Can Fly youth program. Around 800 students took part over the weekend, touring Cathay City, meeting pilots, cabin crew and staff, and learning about aviation careers. The events were supported by over 50 Cathay volunteers and aligned with the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Strive and Rise program.
The I Can Fly program, running since 2003, will continue throughout 2026 with additional Aviation Explorer weekends, a July-August Youth Academy offering immersive experiences in Hong Kong, mainland China and Adelaide, and a Discovery Flight in September. Over 4,400 students have completed the program so far, with many advancing to aviation careers.
Cathay highlighted its ongoing support for youth development and community engagement, including past contributions to the Strive and Rise program that have reached around 4,000 participants through aviation-focused activities.
