A second Hong Kong distributor has been found importing and distributing the same batch of Aptamil infant formula that is being recalled globally due to possible contamination with a bacterial toxin, food safety authorities said on Wednesday.
The Centre for Food Safety announced on Tuesday that retailer Baby HK had sold a small quantity of the affected Aptamil Profutura DUO Pre D (800g) product. A follow-up investigation on Wednesday revealed distributor HK Wukong Trading Limited had imported and distributed 180 cans of the identical batch, which has a use-by date of April 20, 2027.
The CFS has instructed the importer, distributor, and retailers to stop sales, remove the product from shelves, and initiate a recall. Members of the public can call the distributor's hotline at 6426 1511 during office hours for enquiries.
The recall, initiated by German authorities, concerns possible contamination with Cereulide, a heat-stable toxin produced by Bacillus cereus, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
Separately, the CFS is following Nestlé's recall of a batch of Guigoz formula. Preliminary checks show the affected batch has not been imported or sold in Hong Kong by Nestlé Hong Kong.
The CFS urged the public not to let infants consume the affected batch of the product and to seek medical help if discomfort occurs. It continues to monitor the situation.
