A man wearing a police badge cap was caught secretly photographing a young man in a public toilet in Central and later posted the images online with offensive remarks.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday night around 10pm at a Mee Lun Street facility, has prompted police and the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD) to investigate.
The victim, a 22-year-old with long hair and dressed in a dark brown jacket, recounted that as he washed his hands, the man in a blue shirt and a police souvenir cap took out his phone from a sling bag trying to secretly take a picture of him.
The victim confronted the man, asked him to delete the photos, and warned him of calling the police, which the man agreed to do.
Despite this, the victim later discovered that the images had been uploaded online alongside a fabricated story involving a woman peeping while he was in the restroom.
The man responsible, identified as Sit from the tourism industry, posted a photo claiming to have seen a "fair-skinned girl with glasses" next to the washbasin while he was urinating.
The victim reported the matter to the Central Police Station immediately and later sought help from Sham Shui Po Police Station and the PCPD.
Authorities confirmed that the individual who took the photos was not a police officer. The case remains under investigation, with authorities continuing to follow up.
