At least 59 runners were sent to the hospital for medical treatment during the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2026 on Sunday, with two in critical condition and three in serious condition.

Around 74,000 people have registered to join the marathon this year, with 31,000 participating in the 10-kilometer race.
According to the Hospital Authority’s figures, as of 4pm, a total of 59 runners had been sent to the hospital: two were in critical condition, three were serious, while 25 had been discharged.
The Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates stated that by 11am, a total of 1,517 runners required medical treatment, most for minor injuries such as abrasions, sprains, and muscle cramps. 30 were sent to the hospitals.
Some runners experienced heatstroke and shock. Three people were in more serious condition, requiring on-site cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation and transfer to the hospital for further treatment.

At around 8am, a male and female runner felt unwell and were sent to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai. At 9am, two female runners were taken to the same hospital, one of whom had her hand bandaged.
At 9.24pm, a 58-year-old male runner surnamed Yeung suddenly experienced heart discomfort on the westbound carriageway of the Island Eastern Corridor near the Quarry Bay Park. He received on-site first aid and was rushed to the Ruttonjee Hospital for emergency treatment.
At around 9.45am, a 50-year-old male runner surnamed Cheung collapsed in front of the SOGO Causeway Bay Store. He fell into a coma and was taken to the Ruttonjee Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
About 10 minutes later, two male runners were sent to the hospital, one of whom was in a wheelchair with a bleeding forehead and wrapped in a thermal blanket.
At 10am, a male and a female runner were sent to the Ruttonjee Hospital, with the male being unconscious and having facial injuries. About half an hour later, another male runner who was unwell was taken to the hospital with his left knee injured and bandaged, along with a vomit bag.
At around 11am, a female runner also required treatment and was sent to the hospital.
