The defendant, Onishi Ryu, pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful recording or observation of intimate parts at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday.
The defense stated that Onishi has no prior criminal record and was originally traveling to India for work purposes. They noted that while Onishi was taking photos of the scenery at eye level on a Cathay Pacific flight, he accidentally captured images of the woman’s sensitive areas.
They added that Onishi has two children and is responsible for caring for his elderly parents, which adds to his financial burden, urging the court for a lenient sentence.
Principal Magistrate Don So Man-lung stated that cases involving first-time offenders usually warrant a few weeks of imprisonment, and Onishi was sentenced to four weeks behind bars along with a fine of HK$10,000.
