Housing Undersecretary Victor Tai Sheung-shing visited transitional housing projects with residents displaced by the Wang Fuk Court fire on Wednesday, assuring them of continued government support.
Residents toured two projects: the Hong Kong Housing Society's "Eminence Tower" in Hung Shui Kiu and transitional housing "The Step" in Yuen Long. Units in both locations come furnished with basic furniture and appliances, including bed frames, mattresses, bedding, water heaters, refrigerators and induction cookers.
The Transport and Logistics Bureau has been supporting transport needs, adding a resident shuttle bus service between The Step and Tai Po Market station. The projects feature shops, laundry rooms and even gyms to support residents' well-being.
Residents expressed gratitude for the swift accommodation arrangements. Tai pledged ongoing housing support, with eligible residents receiving extended rent exemptions for transitional housing, removing concerns about rental costs or duration of stay.
Eminence Tower offers elevator access on every floor and is near the Hung Fuk Shopping Centre, with supermarkets and fast-food outlets. It also has bus connections to various districts.
As of noon Wednesday, 1,215 households comprising 2,677 people have moved into transitional housing or Housing Society units. Approximately 430 transitional housing units and 420 Housing Society units remain available for affected residents.
Available transitional housing projects with more vacancies include The Step, Concordia Sheung Yue River and Concordia Tsat Sing Kong in Yuen Long, and Pok Oi Sing Ping Village in North district. The Housing Society's "Yue Ying Lau" in Aberdeen also has units available.
