The Cross Strait Four Regions Young Lawyers Forum was held on Tuesday, fostering dialogue among legal professionals to tackle new legal challenges arising from the digital economy and technological advancement while promoting innovation in legal technology.
Under the theme “DARE”, the Forum hosted by The Law Society of Hong Kong focused on contemporary developments in four key areas: Data and Digitalisation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, and E-commerce & Low-Altitude Economy.
The event gathers around 310 lawyers from mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau joining both online and in person at the Charles K.Kao Auditorium in Hong Kong Science Park this year.
Roden Tong Man-lung, president of the Law Society, noted that Hong Kong stands as the intersection of law, technology and geopolitics.
He said that the development of artificial intelligence (AI), anti-money laundering frameworks and virtual assets are reshaping compliance requirements, calling on the legal profession to navigate these changes through collaboration.
He added that the Law Society will continue to refine its regulatory framework for the conduct of solicitors to tackle the rising complex challenges.
Lillian Cheong Man-lei, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said that AI is fundamentally restructuring the foundations of legal practice, governance and cross-border cooperation.
Hong Kong will continue to serve as a “super connector” and “technology hub” for legal professionals across four regions to unify standards and explore innovative AI-driven legal solutions, she said.
The forum features one main session themed “Digital Governance: National Policies Shaping the Legal Landscape of Digitalisation” and three other sub-sessions exploring “AI-Powered Future: Legal Boundaries and Innovative Integration”, “Robotic Horizon: Legal Ecosystem and Digital Innovation in Robot Applications”, and “E-Commerce: The Legal Ecosystem of Low-Altitude Economy”.
