The incident involved Hong Kong Express flight UO559, set to depart at 7.25pm.
The dispute began in the waiting area, where the woman accused her boyfriend of hiring prostitutes and claimed he assaulted her on October 1, striking her 40 times—an incident she said was recorded at Gleneagles Hospital.
Chaos in the departure lounge
Online videos showed the woman, slightly overweight with hair in two bows, standing over her slimmer partner, pinning him to his seat while shouting accusations to onlookers.
She demanded that the evidence be publicized, while he countered that she had cheated and had mental health issues. Bystanders gasped in shock.
Escalation inside the cabin
After boarding, the couple—initially seated apart—clashed again. The woman insisted on sitting beside her boyfriend, but when the crew refused, she grew hysterical, pushing a flight attendant to the floor.
Passengers exclaimed in alarm as she wept, claiming the man was at fault and pleading for support.
The boyfriend loudly denied the allegations, repeating claims about her mental state.
Crew members repeatedly urged calm and suggested a compromise to resume the flight.
Flight delay and crew response
Ultimately, both were removed from the plane. Initial reports cited a 35-minute delay, but the airline confirmed one hour and 25 minutes, with the flight landing safely in Hong Kong at 10.50pm.
Netizens praised the crew’s professionalism in separating the pair early and managing the outburst. Hong Kong’s Aviation Security Ordinance deems such disruptive behavior a criminal offense.
Hong Kong Express apologized for the inconvenience, stressing passenger and crew safety as the top priority.
The airline commended its staff’s training and calm handling, thanking travelers for their patience.
