Football legends Gerrard and Ferdinand ignite excitement for HK showdown in Sha Tin

Football icons Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand, alongside other legendary players, thrilled hundreds of fans at a promotional event in Sha Tin's New Town Plaza on Thursday (Oct 16), building anticipation for the "RED on RED: Gerrard 11 vs Rio 11" match set to take place at Kai Tak Sports Park on Saturday (Oct 18).

The highly anticipated clash between teams led by Liverpool's iconic captain Gerrard and Manchester United legend Ferdinand will mark a historic gathering of football greats. 

During the press conference, the duo was joined by stars like Michael Owen, drawing a large crowd eager to catch a glimpse of their idols.

The event turned lively as the players showcased their skills in a shootout-style game, with signed footballs gifted to fans. One particularly powerful shot from former player Nicky Butt nearly struck spectators, adding to the excitement. 

Gerrard expressed his hope to deliver an electrifying match for fans but humorously admitted uncertainty about whether his body could keep up with the demands. 

Ferdinand, equally enthusiastic, jokingly highlighted the comfort of playing in Kai Tak's air-conditioned venue, noting it's a welcome luxury for players of their age.

The event also revealed the inclusion of several former Hong Kong footballers as reserve players, including well-known names like Chan Siu-ki and Chan Wai-ho. 

Chan Wai-ho shared his excitement about the unique experience, noting how surreal it felt to transition from being a commentator to sharing the pitch with players like Gerrard and Owen.
