A double fatality was discovered at a luxury residence on Shouson Hill Road in the Southern District on Monday afternoon.
Police received a report from a French man around 4 pm stating his 34-year-old wife, a French Hong Kong ID holder, was found hanged in their Shouson Garden unit, with their 7-month-old daughter unconscious in the kitchen. Paramedics confirmed both deceased at the scene.
West District Assistant Commander (Crime) Superintendent Hui Hong-kit stated the woman was found hanged with a belt in a walk-in closet, while the infant was discovered submerged in a water-filled plastic bath basin in the kitchen.
Police confirmed the woman had a history of emotional disorders with post-natal depression recurrence, requiring antidepressant medication. A suicide note was found at the unit. CCTV footage showed only the woman and infant present during the incident, with the woman repeatedly moving between the kitchen and bedroom.
Initial investigation suggests the woman killed her daughter before committing suicide. The case has been classified as infanticide and suicide, with autopsy scheduled to determine exact causes of death. The West District Crime Squad continues investigation.
Shouson Hill, nestled in the Southern District of Hong Kong Island, is renowned for its cluster of high-end residential streets that exude privacy and prestige.
Among its three primary luxury enclaves, Shouson Village Road stands out as the most celebrated, drawing affluent elites and dignitaries due to its secluded villas, limited property supply, and breathtaking views.
The road is home to several notable landmarks, including the Residence of Financial Secretary, at 45 Shouson Hill Road—a historic 1935-built mansion designated as a Grade II historic building by the Antiquities and Monuments Office.
Nearby, at No. 51, lies the grand estate of the father-in-law of former Secretary for Justice Wong Yan-lung.
The road also features six staff quarters for U.S. Consulate employees.
