The government on Friday unveiled a new Advisory Committee on Development of International Aviation Superhub (ACDIAS), set to guide the city’s ambition to solidify its status as a premier global aviation center.
The committee’s formation follows the launch of the Hong Kong International Airport’s third runway system in November 2024, marking a pivotal step in advancing the city’s aviation industry.
Tasked with providing high-level strategic advice, the committee replaces the former Aviation Development and Three-Runway System Advisory Committee.
Its focus includes shaping aviation policies, driving the development of an integrated “Airport City” concept, and addressing operational coordination between the new runway system and surrounding projects.
Led by the Secretary for Transport and Logistics and comprising experts from aviation, business, finance, technology, logistics, academia, and tourism, the committee will serve a two-year term starting October 1.
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan, said the initiative aligns with China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, which emphasizes Hong Kong’s role as an international aviation hub.
Leveraging the city’s unique position under the “one country, two systems” framework, along with its world-class airport infrastructure and extensive global connectivity, the committee aims to unlock the full potential of the expanded airport system and elevate Hong Kong’s influence in regional and global aviation, Chan added.
