Cross-boundary private cars permitted to use the Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point (HYW BCP) will now be allowed to use Lok Ma Chau (LMC) BCP during overnight hours, the Transport Department (TD) announced on Friday in a move to enhance regional connectivity and convenience.
The new measure, effective from August 26, is the result of an agreement between the Hong Kong and Guangdong governments. It will allow eligible vehicles with Closed Road Permits (CRPs) for HYW BCP to cross the border via LMC BCP between midnight and 6.30am daily.
A spokesman for the TD stated that the arrangement aims to provide greater flexibility for cross-boundary drivers, particularly outside the operating hours of Heung Yuen Wai BCP.
He emphasized that the policy will strengthen integration between Guangdong and Hong Kong, improve clearance efficiency, and support the economic development of both regions.
The TD has notified all affected CRP holders by letter. Drivers with valid HYW BCP permits may now use LMC BCP during the designated overnight period without requiring additional documentation.
This expansion brings HYW BCP permit holders in line with those of other major control points—including Shenzhen Bay Port, Man Kam To, and Sha Tau Kok—which already enjoy similar overnight crossing privileges at Lok Ma Chau.
