The Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (OCMFA) has expressed "strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition" to the White House's decision to once again extend the so-called "national emergency" concerning Hong Kong, calling it an unjustified interference in China's internal affairs.
In a statement, the spokesperson for the office emphasized that Hong Kong's national security laws—including the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance—are both "necessary and in line with international practices."
The spokesperson noted that since their implementation, Hong Kong has seen restored stability, an improved business environment, and a steady influx of international investors—a fact "widely recognized by the international community."
The statement accused the U.S. of disregarding facts, undermining the rule of law, and persisting in its "wrongful unilateral sanctions" against Hong Kong based on domestic legislation. This marks the sixth consecutive year that Washington has linked Hong Kong to its "national emergency" status.
The spokesperson condemned the move as a "hegemonic act of weaponizing economic tools," a "political manipulation to interfere in Hong Kong affairs," and a "short-sighted act against historical trends," exposing what it called America’s "hypocritical double standards and rogue logic."
The office reiterated that external interference would not shake the resolve of the Chinese central government and Hong Kong authorities in safeguarding national security, nor would it hinder the city’s transition "from stability to prosperity."
It further warned that such actions run counter to the unstoppable momentum of the "one country, two systems" principle.
The statement concluded by urging the U.S. to "recognize the reality, abandon illusions, and abide by international law and basic norms of international relations," demanding an immediate end to political meddling in China's internal affairs and Hong Kong matters.
