Free rides, free museum visits, and dining discounts will be on offer as part of the July 1 celebrations to mark the 28th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland.
Transport & travel perks
The MTR will distribute 71,000 tickets through a lucky draw, allowing winners to enjoy a free one-way ride on designated routes any day within the next six months.
Citizens can also take advantage of free tram rides for three consecutive days starting Tuesday, as well as free travel on the Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui to Wanchai on the anniversary.
Children aged three to 11 can ride the Airport Express for free, while passengers aged 60 and above will receive half-price tickets.
Free museum & park access
Members of the public will have free access to regular exhibitions at the Hong Kong Science Museum, the Hong Kong Space Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, as well as M+. All exhibitions at the Hong Kong Palace Museum will also be free.
Entry to the Hong Kong Wetland Park, government-run indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, will also be free.
Ocean Park Hong Kong will launch a promotional package for tickets before July 3, and on July 1, children and seniors will receive discounted cable car tickets at Ngong Ping 360.
Dining & retail discounts galore
Over 3,800 restaurants and merchants will offer special promotions, with the majority of participating eateries providing a significant discount, allowing patrons to pay only 71 percent of the original price, echoing the handover date.
Fast food chains such as McDonald's, Fairwood, and KFC, will be selling designated cuisines or menu items at discounted prices.
All eateries under the restaurant chain Tai Hing will be offering dine-in customers a 29-percent-off discount on all items on its menu.
All restaurants and shops under the Japanese brand Kabushikigaisha, including Gyu-Kaku and Mo-Mo-Paradise, will launch two rewards from July 1 to 7.
During the event period, the 71st, 2071st, 4071st, 6071st, 8071st, 10071st, and 12071st member's bill will be rewarded with HK$7,100 coupons, and the member with the highest accumulated consumption record will receive HK$71,000 cash coupons.
Convenience store 7-Eleven will launch an 88 percent discount on all types of desserts and bakery products, while Circle K is set to roll out a 29-percent-off discount on fresh juice.
Silver promotions for the elderly
The offers from the catering sector this year will echo the government's policies on promoting the silver economy, as some restaurants and shops will provide extra discounts for seniors.
Certain branches of Tai Cheong Bakery offer a 29-percent-off discount to elderly customers who purchase products at HK$10 or above with their Senior Citizen Card or JoyYou Card.
Chung's House also offers a 29-percent-off discount on some of its meals. Meanwhile, dim sum shop Bao Dim Sin Seng provides a 29-percent-off discount for elderly customers who purchase two or more dim sum products.
