The Hong Kong team has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 PDC World Cup of Darts following their victory over Sweden, marking their return to the stage after a decade.
As the only Asian representative in the quarterfinals of this year’s tournament held in Frankfurt, Germany, the team has been celebrated as “the pride of Asian darts” by Dartsworld magazine.
To bring honor to the city, Hugo Leung Man-lok and Mathew Lee Lok-Yin began their campaign with a convincing 4-1 win against the U.S. on the opening day of the group matches.
The duo later dominated Bahrain, securing a 4-0 victory and advancing to the round of 16 as winners of Group I, where they faced the 11th seed, Sweden, on Saturday (June 14).
The Hong Kong team had a strong start against Sweden, with Leung being in particularly impressive form and achieving a 135-point checkout in the fourth leg and taking a 3-1 lead.
Although Sweden managed to level the score at 3-3, the two Hong Kong players rallied to take a 4-3 lead by halftime.
Their excellent performance continued in the second half, extending the lead to 6-3 before sealing an 8-4 victory.
Leung was outstanding throughout, recording seven checkouts with a 100 percent checkout rate.
“We faced challenge after challenge, but we kept pushing forward without retreating—and we made it, breaking through barriers,” Leung expressed on his Facebook page after the win.
The quarterfinals, semifinals, and final will all take place on Sunday.
