Hong Kong actress Christy Chung is in the spotlight after her 16-year-old daughter sparked backlash online over a controversial bathroom selfie.
Cayla, Chung’s youngest daughter, recently shared a series of photos on social media, including a mirror selfie taken in a restroom. Dressed in a low-cut top, she partially blurred the chest area — but appeared to have overlooked the background.
Sharp-eyed netizens pointed out that a woman appeared to have been accidentally captured while using the toilet, with some speculating the person could be her sister, Jaden.
The image quickly went viral, triggering a wave of criticism. Many slammed the post as a serious invasion of privacy, while others accused Cayla of being careless and only focused on censoring herself.
Although the photo was swiftly deleted, the backlash showed no signs of dying down.
Some netizens turned their attention to Chung, questioning her parenting and saying similar controversies involving her daughters had surfaced more than once. Others urged Cayla to be more cautious.
Chung, who has been married three times, has three daughters — her eldest from her first marriage, and her two younger daughters from her second. She later married Zhang Lunshuo in 2016, and her daughters have since taken their stepfather’s surname. The family frequently shares glimpses of their lives online.
Cayla, who has been stepping further into the public eye in recent years, has previously drawn attention for her mature styling and online presence.
Chung has also revealed that her daughter was born with amblyopia and underwent treatment. Cayla has also pushed back against criticism over her language abilities.
