Australian actor Julian McMahon, renowned for his roles in the hit TV series Nip/Tuck and Charmed, has passed away at the age of 56.
McMahon died on Wednesday in Clearwater, Florida, following a battle with cancer, as confirmed by his wife Kelly Paniagua.
According to Paniagua, McMahon cherished life, valuing his family, friends, work, and fans deeply. She expressed that his greatest desire was to spread joy to as many people as possible.
McMahon first gained prominence playing Cole Turner in the supernatural drama Charmed and then achieved broader fame as the charismatic plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy in Nip/Tuck. This role brought him a Golden Globe nomination and significant acclaim during the show’s run from 2003 to 2010.
Dylan Walsh, McMahon's co-star in Nip/Tuck, offered his tribute by reflecting on their shared experiences and the deep bond they had. He mentioned that McMahon would have wanted him to share something that would make him smile, recalling the inside jokes and laughter they shared over the years.
McMahon's film roles included playing Doctor Doom in Fantastic Four (2005) and its 2007 sequel. He also starred in FBI: Most Wanted for three seasons, a fact that show producer Dick Wolf described as shocking upon hearing of McMahon's death.
Born into a notable Australian family—his father was former Prime Minister Sir William McMahon—Julian McMahon also portrayed an Australian prime minister in Netflix’s The Residence.
His personal life included three marriages, one of which was to Australian singer and actress Dannii Minogue, the sister of pop icon Kylie Minogue.
