City's businesses lag in AI integration

Eighty-five percent of surveyed Hong Kong companies plan to integrate or have already integrated artificial intelligence into their apps and mobile solutions, but the percentage still lags behind rest of Asia by 8 percent, according to a report by the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association.

The survey was conducted between May and June 2024 by interviewing senior executives of 251 smart application or solutions companies in Hong Kong and other regions of Asia through online questionnaires.

There is a significant gap in the application of image and video generation tools such as Adobe Firefly or Midjourney. Fifty percent of Hong Kong companies choose to apply, compared to 80 percent in other regions of Asia.

Looking ahead to next year, 11 percent of Hong Kong companies surveyed said they have plans to invest more than HK$500,000 in AI, but this is lower than 19 percent in the rest of Asia.
