More than two-thirds of Hongkongers shopped on cross-border e-commerce platforms at least once a month and over one-third spent an average of HK$200-$399 each time they shopped, a survey has found.
Commissioned by Alibaba's (9988) Taobao, the survey collected 2,289 responses from residents aged 18 or above who had made purchases on these platforms in the past 12 months.
Up to 71 percent of respondents said they e-shopped across the border at least once a month while more than half visited these platforms no less than once a week. And 34.9 percent of them said the average amount they spent each time was HK$200-$399, followed by HK$400-$599 (26 percent), and about 17 percent less than HK$200.
The poll also revealed that price, merchant's reputation and buyer protection were the three most important factors for consumers to consider when choosing a cross-border platform.
The study found that the top three categories most frequently purchased online by women were fashion products, furniture and home furnishings, and groceries. The top three choices for men were electronic devices and products, furniture and home furnishings, and fashion products.
