Chinese toy company Pop Mart (9992) has begun enabling overseas customs authorities to intercept these fake goods, with the total number of intercepted counterfeits reaching 7.91 million across more than 240 batches so far.
It comes after it has completed customs recordals in 27 countries and regions to combat the growing issue of counterfeit and infringing products, according to mainland media.
Furthermore, from January to mid-August of this year, domestic Chinese customs have seized 1.83 million Pop Mart-related infringing items across 237 batches. These shipments were destined for 61 different countries and regions.
Beyond physical shipments, online platforms are a major channel for the global distribution of counterfeits. Pop Mart has already identified and gathered evidence on over 300 infringing product listings across various cross-border e-commerce platforms.
A Pop Mart spokesperson outlined three key ways for consumers to identify genuine products:
- Anti-counterfeit Label: The verification code should be checked for the first time upon receipt. If it shows it has been verified twice or more, the product is likely fake.
- Holographic Sticker: Authentic product boxes feature a exclusive anti-counterfeit sticker.
- Logo Imprint: A logo steel stamp is found on the bottom of the products.
Additionally, consumers can examine the production details, such as the tie-dye craftsmanship, for authenticity.
Pop Mart said it will continue to accelerate its global intellectual property rights protection strategy and urges consumers to purchase products only through official channels.
