Macau GDP rises 5.1pc on tourism rebound

Macau's economy grew 5.1 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, as a surge in tourist arrivals supported a recovery in services exports, according to preliminary data released by the city's Statistics and Census Service on Thursday.

Gross domestic product reached 100.38 billion patacas (HK$97.46 billion) in the quarter, bringing overall economic activity to 88.8 percent of its level in the same period of 2019, before the pandemic hit.

In the first half of 2025, Macau's GDP expanded by 1.8 percent year-on-year to 200.14 billion patacas, recovering to 87 percent of its pre-pandemic level.

Macau saw a nearly 20 percent increase in visitors this quarter, contributing to a 5.8 percent rise in service exports. Final government consumption grew by 1.1 percent, while private consumption increased by 0.3 percent.
