Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau Tak-wah made a surprise appearance at Louis Koo Tin-lok’s concert finale on Saturday (Aug 22), as the two stars shared an emotional moment on stage and Lau thanked Koo for his contribution to Hong Kong’s entertainment industry.
The appearance came on the second and final night of Koo’s “MY FIRST SHOW” concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum, which also featured a star-studded lineup including Jessica Hester Hsuan, FAMA, Raymond Lam Fung, Stephen Fung Tak-lun, Grasshopper and Leo Ku Kui-kei.
Lau joined Koo for a performance of “Going Have Fun Alone.” After the duet, the two faced each other and knelt down, drawing cheers from the audience.
Lau said he was happy to be part of Koo’s first concert, while Koo thanked him for regularly calling to offer encouragement and support, calling Lau his “big brother.”
Lau joked that he was only a few years older than Koo, prompting Koo to jokingly correct himself and call Lau a peer who was “just a little older.”
Lau said he liked the description before praising Koo for his contribution to the industry.
“I represent the Hong Kong entertainment industry in thanking you,” Lau said, adding that he now had a family and could no longer work as hard as he used to.
“I’ll leave it to you,” he said, in what appeared to be a symbolic passing of the baton to Koo.
Koo responded: “Then let’s work hard together.”
Lau then pledged: “Whenever you call me, I’ll be there.”
Koo also reunited with Grasshopper during the concert, thanking Calvin Choy for coaching him in his dance training and helping him strengthen his thighs to improve his dancing.
Grasshopper, who will hold a concert in Macau in October, jokingly invited Koo to be their guest. Koo immediately agreed.
Koo also performed “Love of the Past” with longtime friend Leo Ku, saying the pair had known each other for more than 30 years and had met when they first entered the entertainment industry.
Ku also joked about Koo’s fans calling him “Daddy,” prompting the audience to shout the nickname together. Ku joked that the moment could even become a Guinness World Records entry.
Koo’s two-night “MY FIRST SHOW” concerts concluded with a series of surprise appearances, bringing together some of Hong Kong’s biggest entertainment stars to celebrate his first solo concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
