Siobhan Haughey made history Wednesday winning an Olympic silver medal in swimming for Hong Kong in the 200-meter freestyle contest won by Australian powerhouse Ariarne Titmus who crowned herself with gold.
Coached by Rick Bishop of the University of Michigan in the United States, Haughey qualified on Tuesday for the 200m freestyle final, clocking the second fastest time, behind Australian Titmus.
Titmus touched for gold in a new Olympic record time of 1:53.50. American Katie Ledecky was fifth.
Haughey won silver with a time of 1:53.92, while Canada's Penny Oleksiak took the bronze medal clocking 1:54.70.
Haughey, who won silver in the event, was delighted to be on the podium. She also encourages young Hong Kong athletes to keep training, saying it will be their turn soon.
