Armed with photos and jerseys, the students eagerly sought autographs from the football legend, who graciously signed each item during his free moments.
Yorke also joined in on the games, playing football with the students in a friendly match.
Yorke expressed his excitement about the students' passion for football, noting the significant age difference but feeling the universal love for the sport.
He praised the young players' impressive skills and professionalism, emphasizing the importance of nurturing their passion for football from a young age to excel in the future.
Yorke reminisces about his childhood
Reflecting on his own childhood, Yorke recalled falling in love with football at the age of six, dedicating most of his time to the sport over other leisure activities.
Coming from Trinidad and Tobago, he encouraged Hong Kong students, highlighting that despite being from a small population, professional training for children and youth can cultivate outstanding football talents. He stressed the significance of the program in achieving this goal.
JC School Football Development Program aims to unlock potential
Since 2013, the Jockey Club has collaborated with Manchester United to launch the program, introducing a training model focused on "inspiration" and "encouragement" into local schools.
This initiative aims to unlock the potential of school teachers and coaches, enhancing the physical, mental, and social abilities of the younger generation.
To date, the program has benefited over 220 kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, and tertiary institutions, with more than 7,100 teachers, coaches, students, and parents receiving training and guidance.
A teacher from TWGHs Tsoi Wing Sing Primary School mentioned that the program emphasizes the importance of enjoying football. Yorke's visit not only broadened the students' horizons but also deepened their understanding of international sports events.
Yesterday (Apr 13), Yorke also attended one of the Hong Kong Jockey Club's 140th Anniversary events, the JC School Football Development Scheme – Challenge Cup 2025.
The Challenge Cup featured teams from previous partner schools of the program, with Yorke cheering on the participants and joining them in games.
