The event, themed “i-Explore, i-ConNet, i-Shine,” provided a dynamic platform for 2,000 students to connect with nearly 100 top employers, fostering opportunities for internships and jobs.
Career Expo at HKBU showcases AI integration and global opportunities
The Career Expo highlighted the increasing importance of human-AI collaboration in the workforce, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence's growing influence.
Notably, about 12 percent of the employers were from mainland China, offering roles in both Hong Kong and the mainland. These employers emphasized the need for soft skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence, which are less likely to be replicated by technology.
A standout feature of the expo was the AI mock job interview, a first for any Hong Kong university, conducted in Cantonese, English, and Putonghua.
This innovative setup by the Career Centre involved a 20-minute simulated interview where an AI dynamically generated questions based on the interviewees' responses. Participants received AI-generated feedback, which helped enhance their confidence and preparedness for real interviews.
Beyond the mock interviews, the event also offered personalized career support through a CV clinic and networking opportunities with diverse employers, aiding students in their career planning.
The keynote address was delivered by Marina Watt, vice president of the Hong Kong Public Relations Professionals' Association, themed around “Reimagining the Future of PR”.
Additionally, Professor Regina Chen from the School of Communication discussed the importance of impactful messaging in public relations. She highlighted that HKBU’s curriculum is designed to balance theory and practice, preparing students to make meaningful impacts in society.
Universities embrace AI to shape future leaders in business and communication
Both Professor Zhang Han, Dean of the School of Business, and Professor Zhong Bu, Dean of the School of Communication, emphasized the role of their schools in preparing students for a future dominated by AI.
Professor Zhang noted that the School of Business aims to develop strategic thinkers who can innovate across fields like ESG, Web3, and sustainable finance. Meanwhile, Professor Zhong pointed out that the School of Communication’s AI Media Center is setting global standards in AI-driven media research.
The event also featured master’s program admission talks and information booths, showcasing 15 master's programs available through both schools.
These programs are designed to meet the pressing needs of society and include degrees like the Master of Science in Finance (FinTech and Financial Analytics) and the Master of Science in AI and Digital Media, which prepare graduates to lead in their respective fields.
