The newly opened project fosters a blended living-learning environment, allowing students to integrate academic pursuits with cultural and social interactions. It is strategically designed to attract global talent to Hong Kong, thereby enhancing the diversity of the student population and bolstering the city’s stature as an international educational hub. This initiative follows a generous donation exceeding HK$154 million from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust in 2020.
The opening ceremony featured notable guests including Lester Huang, Club Steward; Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong; and Dr. Peter Wong, Chairman of the University Council.
Huang remarked, “This is the fourth residential complex partially funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for the University of Hong Kong. It significantly contributes to the diversity of our student community and supports Hong Kong’s evolution as an international education hub.”
Situated on Police School Road in Wong Chuk Hang, Aberdeen, Jockey Club Student Village IV consists of four student residences within two 17-story residential towers, offering over 1,200 bed spaces for both local and international undergraduate and postgraduate research students. The complex features a smart housing system, including electronic door locks, room booking capabilities, and laundry-status monitoring. Additionally, it boasts shared facilities such as a dining hall, study rooms, relaxation areas, and other amenities.
This village is among the pioneering projects in Hong Kong to employ a modular integrated construction method, aimed at improving cost-efficiency and productivity while minimizing construction waste, carbon emissions, and disruption to the surrounding community. The project has earned the BEAM Plus Platinum green building certification, highlighting the Club’s commitment to fostering a sustainable future.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust continues to address the chronic shortage of student accommodation in Hong Kong. Previously, the Trust funded the construction of Jockey Club Student Villages I, II, and III, and the Mui Fong Street Student Residence, collectively providing over 3,800 bed spaces. In 2020, it allocated more than HK$31 million towards the construction of the Mui Fong Street Student Residence, which opened in 2023. Located on Mui Fong Street in Sai Ying Pun, this 24-story dormitory offers 250 bed spaces for postgraduate research students.
The support provided by the Club for the Jockey Club Student Village IV and Mui Fong Street Student Residence is part of its broader commitment to charity and community support, facilitated by its unique integrated business model that combines racing and wagering activities to generate tax contributions, charitable donations, and employment opportunities.
